A child prodigy – he was born in a family, highly inclined to music and culture. To start with the basics of Indian classical music, Dhrubajyoti was first inspired by his father Sri Purnendu Shekhar Chakraborty, a keen lover and patron of music.
He took up Sitar, only at the tender age of seven, under the tutelage of Prof. Sunil Dev Burman, one of the senior exponents and scholars of Senia Gharana. He came in close contact with the great maestros like Pundit Dhrubatara Joshi (Ex-Acharya, Sangeet Bhawan, Visva-Bharati University) and Pundit Nikhil Banerjee, from whom he used to receive guidance and advices time to time.
Dhrubajyoti is the first Indian artist who has performed at the historical Chamber Music Hall at Leipzig Music University in Germany, where the great stalwarts of music like Bach, Beethoven, Mozart, etc. rendered their first performances. He has received many awards and appreciations. He has received many awards and appreciations from the well-known institutions, eminent music scholars and critics from both the print and electronic media. He possesses a legion of admirers among the innumerable culture-minded and intellectual individuals coming from every sphere of this culture-prone society.
Dhrubajyoti has enchanted the audiences in a number of prestigious music conferences all over India and abroad and has been recognized with Indian Council for Cultural Relations and as a graded artist of Prasar Bharati (All India Radio). He has been honoured with the appellations viz. Sangeet Prabhakar, Sangeet Bibhakar and Sangeet Visarad and has been awarded with the prestigious ‘Sur Moni’ (The title offered for an excellent performance in the famous ‘Swami Haridas Sangeet Sammelan‘).
